Structural Analysis-Determinacy

For planar frame, three restraints i.e. translation (vertical and lateral) and rotation are needed to hold each element in place.

For planar truss, two restraints i.e. vertical and lateral translation are required instead.

The structure is unstable with less restraint than required, and indeterminate with more restraint than required.
