Things You Need to Know About Truss

 


Truss structure is more efficient when it comes to long span structure. The arrangement of components such as top chord, diagonal web, vertical post and bottom chord is strategic and this makes the use of material efficient. In return, the cost of fabrication is high. Truss members are smoothly pinned and this causes the members to sustain only axial load.

Determinacy of truss is inspected based on the number of joints, members and support reactions. When the sum of number of members and reactions equals to two times the number of joints, the truss is statically determinate. Too many members will make truss indeterminate, and this requires us to deploy force method. When we have insufficient number of members the truss often becomes unstable.

Two methods are used for truss analysis: method of joint and method of section. Method of joint goes through joint after joint and resolve the forces acting on each of them. Method of section utilizes equilibrium and provides quick solution to selected members.
