Retaining Structures-Active and Passive Conditions

Retaining structure movement is allowed during design.

When structure is moving away, soil mass collapses and push toward the structure. It is now in active condition.

If the structure is pushing the soil, then it is in passive condition.

If there is no movement, the soil will be at rest.
