Retaining Structures-Soil Strength Parameters

There are two strength parameters for soil:

Friction angle depends on angularity and interlocking of soil particles.

Cohesion is commonly seen in fine grained soil. It is an electrostatic force that hold the soil particles together.

These parameters can be identified from Mohr’s circle and its failure envelope.
