Properties of Fluid


In this video, we look into some basic properties of fluid. First of all, we know fluid behaves completely different compared to solid. As we go further, we also notice that different types of fluid present, and all of them have distinctive behaviour.

The most essential properties of fluid is density. Besides that, we also need to know the compressibility of fluid, which is usually described using bulk modulus. Viscosity is another important property which varies with the types of fluid, for instance Newtonian or non-Newtonian (dilatant and pseudoplastic). The properties of fluid varies with temperature and pressure, since the state of molecules is always dependent of them.

In fluid mechanics, we always refer to Newtonian fluid. Study of non-Newtonian fluid is known as rheology.
