Highway-Movement Hierarchy

There are six stages of travel movement:

1. main movement – uninterrupted high-speed flow.

2. transition – prepares driver from high-speed flow to moderate speed flow.

3. distribution – moderate speed flow.

4. collection – low speed flow across neighbourhood.

5. access –direct vehicle to destination.

6. termination – destination where vehicle parks.
