Bridge-Material Quantities

Precast segmental construction is more economic than in situ construction as thinner deck section is possible.

The reinforcement in precast segmental construction and precast beam is significantly less than other forms of construction. This is because less reinforcement is required with lower early thermal effect and differential shrinkage.

Their prestress quantities are also less compared to in situ deck.

The prestress quantities for external tendons are more than internal tendons. This is due to the reduction in bending resisting efficiency.

In general, the range of bridge material quantities is considered well-defined, despite of the fact that bridges may vary with different deck width and loading.
