Bridge-Torsion Design

Torsion occurs when bridge deck is subjected to non-symmetrical loading. Other than that, when the deck is on a horizontal curve, twisting may occur.

Torsion usually do not govern the dimension of concrete section. Instead, it may require more reinforcement.

Both transverse and longitudinal reinforcements are necessary to resist the torsional stress developed in a concrete section.
