Foundation-Shallow Foundation Capacity in Undrained Sloped Soil

If a footing is constructed close to a slope, its bearing capacity may be reduced.

One of the examples for this situation is the construction of road or railway on top of embankment.

Study on the influence of distance from the crest of slope to the bearing capacity factor has been conducted.

Other than local failure mechanism that governed by the bearing capacity of the footing alone, global failure mechanism, namely the stability of slope including the foundation needs to be checked as well.
