Foundation-Base Resistance of Pile in Drained Soil

The base resistance of pile in drained soil can be determined using the method of calculating bearing capacity of shallow foundation under the same condition.

The only difference is, the pile is usually deeply embedded and at the founding plane, the overburden soil surcharge is huge. This causes the cohesion and self-weight terms become much smaller than surcharge terms. As a result, their contribution is negligible and the calculation for pile base resistance may be simplified.

The bearing capacity factor Nq should be determined using the chart provided by Berezantsev et al (1961) when circular pile is used.
