In a pile group, the settlement of each pile influences its surrounding soil. As a result, additional settlement may be induced in other piles.
Generally, when two
piles are further away from each other, their influence on each other is
expected to be small, and vice versa.
Approach from
Poulos & Davis (1980) is commonly used, while the interaction factor should
be calculated based on the method proposed by Mylonakis & Gazetas (1998).
This additional
settlement should be added to individual pile settlement due to applied load,
as determined from either Randolph & Wroth, T-z or hyperbolic method, to
obtain the total settlement of the individual pile.
