Foundation-Pile Resistance from CPT Data

Cone penetration test (CPT) test result can be adopted directly for displacement pile design, due to the similarity between CPT and its installation process.

Average cone resistance from CPT over the distance of 1.5 times the pile section diameter, above and below its base needs to be calculated.

Then, we may multiply it with a soil dependent constant introduced by Jardine et al (2005) and Lee & Salgado (1999).

The product of multiplication is the limiting end pressure for pile base.

The result from CPT is unreliable when it comes to determining the shaft resistance of pile.
