Foundation-Raft System

Raft foundation with high breadth to thickness ratio is flexible and the settlement tends to increase towards the center of raft.

The maximum differential settlement in raft is dependent of the normalized raft-soil stiffness. The higher the stiffness, the lower the differential settlement.

The maximum bending moment developed in raft can also be determined based on the stiffness. By knowing the average pressure exerted on the raft, we can determine the design bending moment for structural design purpose.
