When designing foundation system for a building, there are several feasible options.

Where shallow foundation is preferred, one of the most common systems is individual pad footings beneath each column.

Foundation supporting multiple columns such as strip footings and raft are possible alternative for pad footings.

Where deep foundation is necessary, piles can be provided either underneath each column, or combined with raft and form piled raft system.

When designing foundation system for a building, differential settlements are highly concerned to avoid the damage of building components.
