Construction Material: Concrete
Concrete is excellent in resisting compression and performs poorly when it is subjected to tension. Its compressive strength can be measured either using cylindrical strength or cube strength. The characteristics strength of concrete is determined when the concrete is 28 days old.
The mechanical properties of concrete vary with its strength class. When evaluating elastic deformation of concrete structure, the modulus of elasticity is related to mean compressive strength, and adjustment based on the types of aggregate may be needed.
Creep and shrinkage of concrete takes place over time. Such behaviour will further increase the strain in concrete.
Three different stress-strain curves are suggested in Eurocode for various purposes, namely non-linear analysis and cross section design.
