Elastic Analysis
When conducting elastic analysis, the concrete sections are assumed uncracked. Linear stress-strain relationship is adopted, with mean value of modulus of elasticity.
This type of analysis can be implemented in both serviceability and ultimate limit states.
Under ULS, moment redistribution may be introduced, as long as the equilibrium can be achieved.
Where continuous beams or slabs are mainly subjected to bending and the ratio of adjacent spans lies within 0.5 to 2, redistribution of moment can be determined without explicit check on their rotation capacity.
However, when it comes to column design, no moment redistribution is allowed.
