One Way Slab Analysis (BS8110)
One way spanning slab is defined as slab where its ratio of long edge to short edge is greater than 2. For this kind of slab, the loading on slab is transferred to supporting beam along its long edge. The span of slab panel in this case, equals to the length of short edge.
Design shear force and bending moment in slabs can be estimated using Table 3.12, BS8110 Part 1: 1997.
However, to apply this method, several conditions as per clause 3.5.2.3 need to be fulfilled. The live load can neither exceed 5kN/m2, nor greater than 1.25 times the applied dead load. Moreover, the plan area of the bay of slabs should exceed 30m2.
