Anoxic Tank

Anoxic tank is provided for denitrification process. Key element for denitrification is bacteria, which is supplied by activated sludge recycled from aeration tank. Wastewater is mixed with incoming activated sludge and form mixed liquor under the mixing power of 3W/m3 to 8W/m3. The concentration of suspended solids in mixed liquor, namely MLSS is maintained throughout the process. These bacteria need to work under anoxic environment. Such environment is created by controlling the amount of dissolved oxygen in wastewater, typically below 0.5mg/L.

Under anoxic environment, bacteria in wastewater are starved and start to break down nitrates. Through this process, nitrogen gas is released and as a result, the amount of nitrogen in wastewater can be reduced to acceptable level.
