Clarifier Tank
After biological treatment, the effluent is discharged to clarifier. At this point, it is expected to contain large amount of bacteria. Thus, the role of clarifier is to allow the bacteria and solid in the mixed liquor to settle. To enable proper settlement, the wastewater should be retained in tank for more than 2 hours.
At the end of settlement process, the scum on the surface is skimmed and disposed. Clear supernatant is then discharged for disinfection. As for the settled bacteria, some of them are recirculated back to aeration tank, and some of them are transferred to sludge holding tank. The collection of sludge is performed by hopper. Alternatively, scraper is used to skim the sludge from bottom.
