Estimating Evaporation

Evaporation rate of a water body may be determined using empirical equation. Among those equations, Meyer’s and Rohwer’s formulas are commonly adopted. Both equations are in the form of Dalton-type equation.

When implementing these both Meyer’s and Rohwer’s equations, we need to know the vapour pressure, wind speed and atmospheric pressure.

Other than empirical equations, we may use analytical methods. These methods include water budget equation and energy budget equation. Analytical method usually gives better estimation when compared to empirical equations. However, we need to know the parameters which are difficult to assess before using them.

The following show some methods and examples for the estimation of evaporation rate in a water body. Watch the video above for full details.
