Evapotranspiration
includes both evaporation and transpiration processes. Transpiration is the
release of water back to the atmosphere from living plants. These waters are
being absorbed by plants via root systems in the first place.
The study
of evapotranspiration uses potential evapotranspiration (PET) as the main
input. It estimates the water released via the hydrological process within a
catchment, under the condition where soil gives sufficient water to the plants
until the needs for vegetation are fully complied with.
Penman’s
equation is one of the most popular equations for the calculation of PET. It
takes wind speed, vapour pressure, solar radiation, temperature and site cover
into consideration during the estimation.
The following shows the introduction to evapotranspiration, as well as the method to estimate it. Watch the video above for full details.
