Grades and Types of Bricks

Bricks can be categorized based on their intended usage. In this case, we will have four types of bricks: building brick, facing brick, floor brick and paving brick.

Building brick is normally used for internal walls, where it may be used as a part of building structural system. A building brick can be further classified as grade SW, MW and NW.

Facing brick on the other hand, is specially for appearance and facing purposes. Colour, dimensional tolerances, textures, uniformity and defects are important factors to consider when selecting a facing brick. There are three types of facing bricks, namely FBS, FBX and FBA. Only grade SW and MW are available for facing bricks.

Floor brick is used to form finished floor surfaces. Therefore, it needs to be smooth, dense and having high abrasive resistance.

Paving brick is commonly used for roads and sidewalks. It is basically smooth, low-abrasion vitrified brick.
